Communications Volunteer

Ilford Shopmobility

Ilford Shopmobility is where people with mobility difficulties come to hire electronic scooters or manual wheelchairs so that they can get round Ilford town centre more independently.

We need a Communications volunteer to promote the services of Ilford Shopmobility, in particular by managing website content; email newsletters; and social media presence.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • To produce and distribute a quarterly email newsletter using Mailchimp and provide feedback on the newsletters take-up.
  • To manage Shopmobility’s mailing list using Mailchimp.
  • To research, develop and establish appropriate social media presence. 
  • To develop and maintain the Ilford Shopmobility website (via Wordpress).
  • To develop and maintain a stock of publicity materials.
  • To liaise with partners such as Redbridge Council and voluntary groups and encourage them to promote Shopmobility’s work.
  • To educate fellow Shopmobility staff on how the website, email newsletters and social media can be used to promote the organisation.

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Have good IT skills.
  • Good standard of English, written and verbal.
  • Experience in using social media.
  • Experience of using software such as Mailchimp and Wordpress or similar.
  • Good interpersonal skills - be able to engage with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to give 3 hours a week.
  • Own computer and internet access.

Ideally looking for someone able to give at least 3 hours per week for a period of at least 6 months but there is flexibility. Most of this can be done from home but you will need to be able to occasionally visit the office (currently open Tuesdays and Fridays 10.30-3pm).

    DBS check may be needed if volunteer gets more involved in service provision and regularly attends venue.

    Initial recruitment by CV and covering letter - but during the process you will be asked to complete standard application form. 2 references are required.
