DementiAbility Volunteer, Vi and John Reubens House (full specialist training given)

How this role makes a difference: Living with Dementia doesn’t mean that a person cannot engage in appropriate and interesting activities. By giving your time, you would providing profound assistance to those who may take delight in undertaking activities which give purpose to their time.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Helping support Care Home Residents who are living with dementia to take on fulfilling and meaningful tasks to improve the quality of their day to day lives. 
  • Working directly with care home residents at Vi and John who are living with Dementia.
  • Facilitating and/or enabling activities for those living with Dementia.
  • To feedback to Jewish Care staff supervisor as required, and keep all parties updated as needed

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, qualifications and experience

  • Please note that you will be provided with our specialist DementiAbility training before you start volunteering.
  • Patience, empathy and a non-judgemental attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Confidently engage with a diverse range of people and enjoy helping others.
  • A strong understanding and of issues that affect people in later life.
  • Reliability, consistency and dependability.
  • Good conversational and listening skills with a clear speaking voice.
  • The ability to work independently but also stay within the role’s boundaries – recognising what should and shouldn’t be done and when to seek advice or report concerns.
  • Need to be 21+

When do I need to be available?

Morning Afternoon Evening

Flexible but we’d love you, as a minimum, to come in weekly for a couple of hours on a day and at a time of your choosing.
