Age UK Redbridge, Barking and Havering

Age UK Redbridge, Barking & Havering exists to improve and maintain the quality of life for older people living in the area. We seek to achieve this aim by ensuring that older people have dignity, respect, choice and that their voices are heard and that services are provided in a sensitive and approachable manner. We offer advice, help, social activities and volunteer opportunities for older people.

The Falls Prevention Service provide information and support to reduce the risks of trips & falls to help people stay safe and remain independent.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • To visit clients at their homes to identify possible tripping hazards
  • Provide information to enable people to stay safe
  • Encourage people to attend exercise classes to improve mobility

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Good communication skills essential.
  • Awareness of health & safety issues or willing to be trained.
  • Ability to identify problems and raise concerns.
  • Friendly and professional.
  • Understanding of need for confidentiality.
  • Empathy & Patience.
  • Reliability.
  • Need to be 18+ years.

When do I need to be available?

Morning Afternoon Evening

Depends on needs of the project, can be flexible on times. Volunteers will give 2-3 hours a week for six months.

    Volunteers are sent a welcome pack and application form on expression of interest. 2 references. One reference provided by a previous employer to cover a two year time period, and one from a friend. Average length of recruitment 6-8 weeks
