Volunteering with London Fire Brigade Fire Cadets

Fire Cadets is a youth club with the London Fire Brigade which is run by adult volunteers. It runs once a week at your local fire station from 6pm to 9pm. Our new academic year will start in January 2023, and we are currently looking to recruit volunteers to help support run the program.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • As a Volunteer Cadet Instructor, you will teach the Fire Cadets the use of firefighting equipment.
  • The incident attended by London Fire Brigade.
  • Fire safety in the home and community.
  • You will support with youth social action activities to make your community safer and better.
  • Volunteers will commit to attending a chosen number of Fire Cadet sessions a year which will be agreed through discussion at their initial assessment stage.
  • It is expected that volunteers will undertake ongoing essential training which will be no more than seven days per year. 
  • Support London Fire Brigade at open days and events.

What skills do I need?

Skills, personal attributes, qualifications and experience

  • You will not need to have experience of working with young people but have a passion for helping change a young person's life. 
  • You will need to be over 18 years old. 
  • Be willing to commit to regular weeknight evenings and occasional weekends during term time. 
  • Be confident, enthusiastic, passionate and positive pro-social role model for children and young people.  Help them make a difference to their lives and their communities. 
  • All volunteers are required to complete mandatory training including: 
  • An induction to London Fire Brigade, Safeguarding Children, Managing Challenging Behaviour.
  • Undergo an enhanced DBS check.
