Retail Assistants - Haven House

Haven House Childrens Hospice

Our retail shop plays a vital role in raising funds and awareness for our cause. As a shop volunteer you are among the most visible faces of the charity and contribute hugely to how the public perceive us and the work we do.

The purpose of the role is to assist in the day to day running of our charity shop(s) to maximise sales and profitability.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • To greet, assist and serve customers, providing a service of the highest standard, as well as being polite and courteous.
  • To assist with processing stock, including sorting, steaming, pricing, hanging of donated items and the effective display of items presented for sale.
  • To be involved with the till operation and the handling of cash (although this is not a necessary requirement).
  • Help keep the shop looking clean and tidy. Dust the bric a brac and clean the shelves.
  • To promote and apply Haven House's Health and Safety Policy

  • Good communication and customer care service skills.
  • Being able to work as part of a team environment and with the general public.
  • Being flexible.
  • Need to be 16+

When do I need to be available?

Morning Afternoon Evening

The shops are open from Monday - Saturday from 9am - 5pm. Some have disabled access, some do not. Volunteers are asked to give one shift per week . Shifts are split into 4 hours and are usually 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm. However shop managers are flexible and are willing to work with the times the volunteer can give. There is no minimum commitment period.

    We invite all new volunteers to an induction at the hospice. These are usually held every few months but sometimes more often if the need arises.
