Singing for Memory Volunteer, Redbridge

To be a warm and welcoming presence to all who attend weekly Singing for Memory sessions as well as assisting the session as required.

Main tasks and responsibilities 

  • To ensure the room used for the room is set up appropriately and in a manner that is welcoming and appropriate. 
  • Welcoming members and take part in the Singing for Memory sessions, assisting the paid Singing Leader as required and being a role model to members while in the singing circle. 
  • Working as part of a team, both with Jewish Care staff, paid professionals, fellow volunteer facilitators and co-ordinators. 
  • Occasionally staying after a session in order to have a meeting with the Senior Programme Assistant and Music Therapist.

  • You will also help their family carers with others so that they can gain support and advice in their caring roles. 

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, qualifications and experience 

  • Ability to confidently engage with a diverse range of people and enjoy healing others. 
  • Enjoy 'joining in' and being involved and led in musical sessions. A love of music and singing is highly desirable. 
  • A good understanding of dementia is desirable as well as other issues that affect people in later life. 
  • Reliability, consistency and dependability. 
  • Good conversational and listening skills. 
  • Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental attitude. 
  • The ability to work independently but also stay within the role's boundaries - recognising what should and shouldn't be done and when to seek advice or report concerns. 

When do I need to be available?

Morning Afternoon Evening

Time Commitment: Weekly on Wednesdays from 2pm – 3.30pm at Woodford Forest United Synagogue.
