Support Session Volunteer
Could you help someone file a complaint about their housing or GP? Could you help someone find local services? Could you help someone understand the information they have been given about their care and support?
You could help improve the quality of someone’s life.
This role is ideal for social work students, an interest in the care sector or retired professionals.
Support Session Volunteers help our clients with general advocacy issues who are not eligible for Statutory Advocacy. They help us to reduce waiting lists and support more individuals.
Main tasks and responsibilities
• Helping clients understand about advocacy.
• Supporting clients with general issues they cannot resolve on their own.
• Keeping detailed notes and records of interactions with clients and visits.
• Logging work on the case management system.
• Doing research and making contacts with other services.
• Referring clients to our paid advocacy service if necessary.
• Signposting clients to other services.
• Promoting our services and organisation.
• Delivering general advocacy cases .
Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications
• Empathy and patience when dealing with clients.
• some knowledge or interest in advocacy.
• A basic level of IT literacy – email, docs.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage own time and prioritise workload.
• Ability to work independently & as part of a team.
• A commitment to the aims and ethos of VoiceAbility.

2-3 hrs per week. Preferred minimum length of commitment: 6 months Volunteers may choose the time they do their volunteering, but it must be completed within working hrs Mon-Friday between 9am – 5pm.
