Treasurer - Forest Farm Peace Garden

Forest Farm Peace Garden (FFPG)

We are looking for a Treasurer to join our board of trustees. Together trustees support our amazing staff team and lead the Forest Farm Peace Garden strategy.  We meet every 6-8 weeks and ask for a commitment of at least one year.  Our trustees must be great ambassadors for our charity, modelling our core values and ethos.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and advice to the board of trustees on financial matters and helps the board to fulfil its responsibilities for the financial governance and direction of the organisation.
  • Work in partnership with the Project Manager, and as necessary in liaison with the Independent Examiner, to ensure the production of key financial documentation including the annual budget, the annual statutory accounts and bi-monthly management accounts
  • Advise the Project Manager on financial matters including budgets for funding applications.
  • Advise the board on financial matters such as the financial implications of proposed new projects, staffing changes, salary increases, levels of reserves, compliance and controls etc.
  • To be a bank signatory for FFPG and authorise online payments.

    Attend most board meetings, normally held on Monday evenings every 6 to 8 weeks either online or in Ilford or at the garden in Hainault.

  • Read and respond to emails or papers from other trustees and staff as necessary. 
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and other trustee responsibilities as necessary, such as staff recruitment, policy reviews.
  • Where possible, attend and contribute to FFPG annual public events alongside staff, other trustees and volunteers.

  • Minimum age: 18+
  • Own computer

  • Internet access
  • Work experience in the field of finance, and possibly a financial qualification.
  • An understanding of budgets and of management and statutory accounts.
  • A knowledge of charity-specific financial matters such as restricted funding  or the ability and willingness to learn about such matters.
  • The ability to explain financial matters to people who don't have specialist financial knowledge.
  • Experience of making decisions collectively on boards, committees or other types of working groups.
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for the work of FFPG.
  • Work experience in the field of finance, and possibly a financial qualification.
  • An understanding of budgets and of management and statutory accounts.
  • A knowledge of charity-specific financial matters such as restricted funding – or the ability and willingness to learn about such matters.
  • Experience of making decisions collectively on boards, committees or other types of working groups.
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for the aims of FFPG.

Details

Variable home-based. The Board meets every six weeks online or in Ilford or Hainault on Monday evenings (5:00 - 7:00pm). The treasurer may also attend other meetings such as sub-groups and the annual strategy day. There are two annual community events in summer and autumn which trustees attend where possible. Trustees are asked to give approximately five hours a month or less of their time. The minimum commitment is for one year.
