Visitor Centre Assistant

The Woodland Trust

We are looking to recruit volunteers who live close to Hainault Forest, to support the running of our brand new visitor centre. 

This role will play an essential part in the smooth operation of the visitor centre and in raising support for the Woodland Trust. You'll be meeting and greeting visitors, helping in the shop, engaging visitors with friendly and useful information and providing an excellent visitor experience. 

Main tasks and responsibilities 

  • Welcoming visitors to the visitor centre and forest. 
  • Providing friendly and useful information about the history and future of Hainault Forest. 
  • Taking responsibility for enhancing the visitor experience of the site, including responding to queries about site accessibility, events, woodland operations on site and more. 
  • Getting involved with selling products, managing stock and the visual merchandising of the shop. (This includes cash handling and card payments). 
  • Acting in accordance with risk assessment for the task provided to you. 
  • Adhering to the Woodland Trust Volunteer Charter policies, procedures and guidelines.

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Strong customer service skills. 
  • Good verbal communication. 
  • Positive and friendly outlook. 
  • Enthusiastic and helpful attitude. 
  • Basic numeracy. 
  • Cash register experience (would be beneficial). 
  • Ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds. 
  • Knowledge of handling data in accordance with data protection guidelines. 
  • An affinity with and commitment to the aims of Woodland Trust.

We are looking for volunteers who can support us in the week and at weekends and will put together a rota. Please let us know what you can do!

    An interview and two references will be required for this role. You will be required to complete compulsory data protection and safeguarding training, in addition to any other training necessary for this role. As with all volunteer roles you will be required to complete an induction.
