Youth Worker

The Really NEET Project Ltd

We are currently looking for someone who is passionate about Youth Work and would like to get involved with The Really NEET Project in Hainault.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The position will include supporting in lessons including maths & English & art, supporting our students with their learning, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and to assist teaching staff with the preparation of lesson materials.

  • The volunteer would be able to take part in our annual training week, this will include things like SEND training, First Aid, Safeguarding, Autism Awareness, Mental Health training etc.
  • They will also gain invaluable experience working with a wonderful cohort of young people with varying needs and complex backgrounds.
  • The perfect opportunity for someone who is at university and is looking for a placement or for someone who has time to give and is interested in helping people.

What skills do I need?

Skills, attributes, experience and qualifications

  • Candidate must enjoy the challenge of working with disadvantaged young people
  • Good standard of written and spoken English
  • Good numeracy / literacy skills
  • Great Youth Work skills
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with a variety of people i.e. young people, colleagues, adults, parents/carers, professionals etc.
  • To have empathy for our learners in the most challenging of situations
  • Knowledge of ICT to support learning
  • Sound understanding of child development and learning
  • Patience, understanding, caring, sense of humour
  • Ability to work under the direction of the class tutor but also to work independently and use initiative appropriately
  • Ability to encourage learners to interact positively with others and be socially responsible
  • A calm and reassuring approach in order to stop situations from escalating
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion, equal opportunities and meeting the individual needs of our learners.
  • Able to manage time effectively
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Experience of working/volunteering with children or young people with SEND
  • Understanding of relevant policies / code of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of Special Educational Needs, in particular learning skills, social interaction and self-help skills
  • Up to date Child Protection / Safeguarding training
  • Youth Work qualification or working towards
  • Need to be 21+

When do I need to be available?

Morning Afternoon Evening

We would like 2 people to cover Monday/Tuesday sessions and then Thursday/Friday sessions.
